Taj Mahal accident : Japanese tourist dies after falling from stairs of Taj
But an unfortunate accident which took place at India’s most prominent tourist attraction has culminated into yet another tragedy associated with the monument.
A Japanese tourist died at the Taj Mahal Thursday after he fell down a flight of stairs while trying to take a selfie.
Police said he lost consciousness immediately after the fall and succumbed to head injuries in hospital.
The 66-year-old was accompanied by three others as well as a local guide when he collapsed just after climbing up the stairs at the white marble tomb, said the officer in charge of the tourist police station in Agra.
The tourist, identified as H Ueda, received injuries on his head, while his friend fractured his leg, after both fell from the staircase, police said.
The Japanese embassy was informed about the incident, and an investigation into the incident is underway, according to BBC News.
This is not the first accident where people have died while attempting a selfie.
There have been several deaths linked to selfies in recent years and some nations have even begun warning their citizens about the dangers.
There have also been several cases of children being electrocuted while taking selfies on top of railway carriages in Russian Federation .
