Taj Mahal makes debut in Twitter
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today slammed opposition parties for “politicising” the killing of an army jawan by miscreants in Meerut and criticised them for disrupting the Assembly, where they can corner the government on such issues. When introducing the page, the tourism department said, “The official Twitter handle of the world’s most loved monument, located in Agra”.
The bid is meant to boost footfall at the nearly 400-year-old mausoleum – one of the most visited and cherished destinations of the world.
Taj Mahal finally has received its own verified Twitter handle, which state officials claimed, was a first for a historic monument.
Built in the loving memory of his late wife, the Taj Mahal was commissioned by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in 1632 and is also a World heritage site.
Taj Mahal, which goes by the handle @TajMahal on Twitter already has a verified account and almost 2,000 followers at the time of writing this.
In its first tweet, the Twitter account of Taj Mahal explained who exactly follows the handle.
The initial plan was to launch the Twitter account on Independence Day eve, but the permission to hold an event at Taj was denied by the Agra circle of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), citing concerns related to security and the environment.
