Takeaways from the Green Bay Packers loss against Washington
The Redskins defeated the Packe.
The Green Bay Packers are crumbling right before our very eyes. Because the path to the playoffs may depend on three straight road games starting November 24 in Dallas (9-1), with December 4 in Arizona (4-5-1) and December 11 in Philadelphia (5-5) to follow.
Redskins players were ready to think about what’s ahead, too.
Washington Redskins receiver DeSean Jackson is active against the Green Bay Packers a week after missing a game with an injured shoulder.
But it will be brutal the next three games where, if you use some reputable team-evaluation tools, you’d come up with Washington as an underdog by about nine, three and seven points in its next three games.
Add it all up, and Green Bay flailed its way to a fourth consecutive loss, this one by a 42-24 score against the Washington Redskins on Sunday night.
Kirk Cousins, Washington’s quarterback, dominated in the win.
“If we can get our guy back there playing like that”, Jackson said, “we’ll be nearly unstoppable”.
“We always have room to grow, but you can see the progress and you can see the ability that we have, both in the running game and the passing game”, Redskins coach Jay Gruden told reporters in Washington on Tuesday.
The Packers already had said guard T.J. Lang (foot) and linebacker Jake Ryan (ankle) wouldn’t face the Redskins. “I had faith in the defense if we didn’t get it”. And we thought we could get a half yard. “We’re in a tough stretch”. Last week against the Packers, Kelley ended up carrying the football 24 times for 137 yards and three touchdowns. If Hyde keeps this up they’ll start to call him Jekyll and Hyde.
“I mean, it’s huge”, receiver Jamison Crowder said. It was another poor performance by the Packers’ defense, which has allowed 30 or more points in four straight games – the first time a Packers team has done that since 1953, according to Elias Sports Bureau research. They’re doing an excellent job of keeping you off balance with the play action and the bootlegs, the drop backs, and we’re in a similar spot right now.
Safety Micah Hyde illustrates their bewilderment. That has led to much speculation on his future with the Redskins and whether they will meet his asking price for a long-term deal. On second-and-5 from the 30, he found Garcon behind LaDarius Gunter at the Packers 30 and Garcon covered the rest for a 70-yard score.
“Some of his movement looked good or encouraging, but he’s going through the necessary tests”, Bears coach John Fox said after the loss. “He’s always been able to knife a ball through the wind, really”. The Cowboys defense is ranked 13th in total yards, and allowing teams to only 18.7 points per game, as they have been coined as a bend but don’t break kind of defense.
