Talking to LTA about future a waste of time: Murray
Murray had the most consistent season of his career in 2015 and finished it ranked No. 2 in the world for the first time, but a Slam title eluded him.
‘There are obviously still two Grand Slams I haven’t won, and the Australian Open is a tournament I would love to win because I’ve been close there so often, reaching the final four times. “It’s probably the most emotional I’ve been at the end of a match”, Murray said.
Speaking about their post-win celebrations, Murray said: “We all stayed in the hotel and our friends and family came round, and a lot of the fans were staying in the hotel or nearby so they were in the bar area and we chatted and spent a bit of time with them, so it was really nice”. “Let’s learn from this and take the game out and be proud”, enthused Andrew Castle, the former British player, in the moments after the final ball had been struck. After 1936 this is Great Britain’s first victory of Davis Cup.
“I was pumped the entire match”, he said.
He said: “We should be a team that’s very confident, very proud and one that will continue to stick together, because that’s the values that we’ve had right from the start”. We’ve already booked the stadium for March.
The tie, which could pit Britain against Novak Djokovic’s Serbia, is the week after Wimbledon and only two weeks before a packed American hard-court season that includes the Rio Olympics, where Murray will defend his singles title.
The Davis Cup is the premier worldwide team event in men’s tennis in a knock – out format contested annually.
All players were asked to wear something red, white and blue to show their support for Britain in the Davis Cup.
“I don’t speak to any of the people who are in a high-up position about that”, Murray revealed.
“The atmosphere (in Ghent) was wonderful”. It is a shame because, regardless of whether or not we had a load of players at the top of the professional game, the juniors were never a problem before. I am hearing this from people in the tennis industry, so this is from players and coaches.
“It’s just the timing of the competition”.
“I can’t believe we did it”.
“There is nobody to train with when I am at home, nobody to practise with any more, which makes things frustrating”.
Andy Murray is used to the media frenzy given his achievements at Wimbledon. I don’t really know what to say.
Great Britain’s Davis Cup champions enjoyed a Downing Street reception from Prime Minister David Cameron on Tuesday in honour of their triumph over Belgium at the weekend.
Despite a heroic effort from Kyle Edmund on day one and a performance that grew in authority from Jamie Murray in the doubles, Murray’s insistence that it was a collective endeavour failed to persuade. “He hass captured the imagination of so many kids across the country and it is up to the people in charge to capitalise on that”, Jamie Murray said. So I don’t want to waste my time talking about stuff.
