Taraji P. Henson & Viola Davis Make History With Their Emmy Nominations
Empire star Taraji P. Henson and How to Get Away with Murder actress Viola Davis are the first two African-American women in history to have been nominated in the same Emmy category at the same time.
“This is what it’s supposed to be like. You should recognize actors and creative people in this industry from every level of all colors who do great work”, Latifah said.
“Inside Amy Schumer” earned seven nominations, including best variety sketch series and best comic actress for its star.
Chuck Hodes/FOX Taraji P. Henson (right with “Empire” co-star Terrence Howard) was nominated for best actress, but her Fox show was largely snubbed. “The Good Wife” got snubbed yet again.
Their shows were nominated and they received personal nominations for awards too.

In a separate tweet she also congratulated her on screen mother. But Emmy voters clearly aren’t.
In comedy series, Amazon’s Transparent and Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt joined last year’s nominees Louie (FX), Modern Family (ABC) and Silicon Valley (HBO).
Modern Family is now tied with Frasier with five comedy series wins.
