Tarantino proud of blizzard and blood tale ‘The Hateful Eight’
“Well I’m probably only going to make 10 movies, so I’m already planning on what I’m going to do after that”, he said. With The Hateful Eight being the eight installment in Tarantino’s filmography, Kimmel chose to prod the director regarding the accuracy of those comments.
Though the director has used Morricone’s music in his movies before, The Hateful Eight marks the first time that the Italian veteran has written the score for one of his films. The acclaimed director plans to make two more before he steps away from the camera.
“I want to write novels, and I want to write and direct theatre”, explained the controversial helmer. Having seen The Hateful Eight I can confirm that Jamie Foxx’s freed slave would not have fit in as a piece of this whole at all-the movie’s true to its title.
He also acknowledged the theatrical elements to his debut Reservoir Dogs, and that it “could be put onstage and has been put onstage many times”.
It was nominated for a Golden Globe on Thursday in the Best Original Score category, although Morricone was not yet aware of that when Reuters asked for his reaction at the London premiere. “It’s rarely just a completely, out-of-the-blue one, where the director won”.
“He thought I hadn’t started shooting yet, so he was talking to me and I was like “no I’m done shooting and I need the score in a month”, Quentin said. “I couldn’t watch it”, added Morricone, who scored The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, Once Upon a Time in the West and For a Few Dollars More. ‘He really knows how to throw a punch; I knew I’d never actually get hurt’. “People should pay a lot of attention when they write something down”.
Morricone had to clarify comments about Tarantino attributed to him following the release of Django Unchained in 2012, after he allegedly told a group of students at Rome’s LUISS University that he did not care to work with Tarantino again, claiming he was unhappy with the use of his song Ancora Qui in the film and disliked the bloody scenes.
