Target to open at 6 pm on Thanksgiving Day

Hours earlier, Toys R Us announced it will open at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving and stay open until 11 p.m. on Black Friday.

Early discounts and online shopping hurt Thanksgiving weekend sales previous year as shoppers on average spent 6.4 percent less than in 2013, according to data from the National Retail Federation. Stores will close at 1 a.m. and then open at again at 8 a.m. on Black Friday. Target’s deals are included on its website.

Wal-Mart is expected to put out its own ad for Black Friday, though so far none has come out yet. Amazon last week launched a “Countdown Black Friday” sales event, offering discounts on electronics, video games, DVDs, and other items every day leading up to the big event on November 27.

In addition to announcing its Black Friday hours, Best Buy on Tuesday offered a peek at the deals it plans to offer that day, such as a Toshiba 55-inch LED TV for $349.99 and $150 off a 27-inch iMac with retina display.

But more stores are taking a stand over whether they’ll open up on Thanksgiving.

JC Penney started opening Thanksgiving Day past year, while Target has opened since 2012 on Turkey Day.

Most noteworthy among the Target deals is a bundling of a $100 gift card with the purchase of an Apple Watch. While more stores are opening and opening earlier on Thanksgiving, others are switching and shutting down for the holiday.
