Target: Tommy Robredo closes in on third Swedish Open title
Benoit Paire of France ousted top-seeded David Goffin of Belgium 6-2, 6-3 at the Swedish Open on Thursday to reach his first quarterfinals in 15 months.
During the final, the world No. 62 was forced to save two set points in the first set to before taking the tiebreaker 9-7. He failed to convert any of the additional six break chances.
Robredo is chasing his third Bastad title and his 12th clay-court trophy overall, with Paire seeking his maiden ATP Tour victory.
The second set started off similar to the first set with both players holding their serve until a lengthy sixth game which consisted of seven deuces.
Cuevas beat Germany’s Steve Darcis 6-3, 6-4, while Paire moved past Uzbekistan’s Denis Itomin 6-4, 6-2 on Friday.
Zverev will look to take out his third straight seeded opponent when he takes on second-seeded Spaniard Tommy Robredo in the semis.
In his fifth career final, Sousa will attempt to win his second title, after Kuala Lumpur in 2013.
