Taylor Swift apologizes to Nicki Minaj about VMA nominations tweet; Minaj says
And so of course, two highly educated and well respected women settle their nearly feud well with Swift ending it inviting Minaj on stage if indeed she ever won the Video of the Year.
The “Feelin’ Myself” rapper was very quick to inform Tay the rant had absolutely nothing to do with her, and everything to do with double standards. There are more important things to worry about – like why the hell “Anaconda” didn’t get a VMA “Video of the Year” nomination.
Minaj is nominated for three awards, including best female video and hip-hop video for “Anaconda“.
“That SNL (TV) skit about not knowing you like Taylor Swift was on point”. The “Bad Blood” singer added: “I missed the point, I misunderstood, then misspoke”.
Minaj came right back and happily accepted the apology.
That means so much Taylor, thank you.
We can all breathe easier now that the great battle that was Taylor Swift vs. Nicki Minaj is over. You look to Swift’s other, better music video, “Blank Space”, which shrewdly used the genre to comment on and own the artist’s branding and public image.
And unlike twerking starlets with wanton tongues, meat dress-clad Mother Monsters, or douchebag rappers interrupting shock-faced country superstars, Minaj, Swift, and Perry have brought renewed relevance to the VMAs by drawing attention to the very elements the award show was founded on: music videos and what they say about our culture.
This in turn inspired a swift response from Minaj: “Huh?”
Swift responded to that tweet with, “I’ve done nothing but love & support you. But u should speak on this”. “I’m sorry, Nicki”, Taylor wrote.
Taylor leads the way with nine nominations, including video of the year for Bad Blood, which features her celebrity friends such as Kendrick Lamar, Selena Gomez, Lena Dunham, Cara Delevingne and Hailee Steinfeld. Swift doesn’t have that luxury – as the biggest pop star in the world, everything she does, every picture she posts and word she tweets, is subject to intense scrutiny.
“I think everyone knows that Taylor has done nothing wrong in that situation”, The Daily Telegraph quoted Sheeran as saying.
