Taylor Swift defends herself in latest salvo in Kanye battle
When Kim Kardashian said she had “had it” with people treating Kanye West badly, she wasn’t kidding.
Swift can also be heard over the phone sharing her appreciation for West calling her ahead of time, and joking about the controversy the song might spark.
Swift has yet to respond to the new videos.
Swift goes on to state that she never heard a final version of the song to approve or disapprove of before West premiered it publicly at Madison Square Garden. Swift’s camp denied this interaction occurred. Since then, however, both Kim and Kanye have been quiet on the issue. “For you to ask me if I’d be okay with it, I really appreciate it. I’d never expect you to tell me about a line in your song”, Taylor said.
Their rivalry begin in 2009 when the rapper interrupted her speech for best female video at the MTV Awards, citing it should have gone to his friend, Beyoncé. “Thanks so being so cool about it”. Rick Rubin was there.
Then Taylor’s released a statement about the song implying he was lying. Kanye had claimed after the track released that he had Taylor Swift’s permission to record it, saying, “I did not diss Taylor Swift and I’ve never dissed her…[I] called Taylor and had a hour long convo with her about the line and she thought it was amusing and gave her blessings”.
She also tweeted, “Theres a BIG difference between shading someone and speaking the truth!” – seemingly in reference to her speaking up to defend Kanye against Taylor. This was timed to an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians in which the footage and interview with GQ featured heavily as a plot point. Kim proves she does, in fact, have the damn receipts.
The phone call with Swift wasn’t aired on KUWTK, perhaps because West filmed it with a camera crew separate from the one used on the Kardashian’s E! show. “It’s fine”, Swift replied. In them, West is on the phone with Swift.
“I think this is a really cool thing to have”, Kanye says in the clip.
“Go with whatever line you think is better”.
Taylor: I know! I mean it’s like a compliment kind of. “Kanye West never played the song for Taylor Swift”. The back-and-forth continues. These are our Watergate tapes.
