Taylor Swift Gets Emotional Singing ‘Ronan’ in Concert – Watch Now
But during her show in Glendale, Ariz., on Monday night (Aug. 17), Taylor did something she’d never done on her 1989 Tour before – or any of her other tours, for that matter – when she performed “Ronan“, a song she’s only sung live once before.
“There’s a woman here tonight named Maya Thompson…and I wouldn’t know half as much as I know about childhood cancer and childhood cancer research if she hadn’t shared her story about her son Ronan“.
The singer added that cancer had also “hit close to home” recently – her mother Andrea was diagnosed in December, which Swift confirmed in a Tumblr post in April. The 25-year-old almost broke down on stage while singing her StandUp2Cancer ballad, “Ronan”, and openly spoke about her mom, Andrea Swift’s, cancer battle for the first time.
‘She had this blog called Rockstar Ronan, and I would read it every night, ‘ she said.
TAYLOR Swift has paid an emotional tribute to a “brave” fan for teaching her about cancer. “For Christmas this year, I asked my mom that one of her gifts to me be her going to the doctor to get screened for any health issues, just to ease some worries of mine”.
After asking the crowd to give Thompson a round of applause, the pop princess introduced her performance of “Ronan”, which she originally released in 2012 as a charity single. “I just wanted to take a moment and try to play this song…I think because Maya’s here tonight, I think she deserves it”.
The lyrics were taken from the blog written by Ronan’s mother Maya, who afterwards went backstage after the Gledale, Arizona gig to meet the singer. I still can’t believe you did this. “You have my heart for the rest of my life and beyond”. I love you to the moon and back. She agreed, and went in to get checked. “This is something my family and I thought you should know about now”.
