Taylor Swift, One Direction big winners at American Music Awards

Jennifer Lopez hosted the 2015 American Music Awards, broadcast last night on ABC, and for the third year in a row, One Direction took home the trophy for “Favorite Duo or Group – Pop/Rock”. Taylor Swift, 2013 artist of the year, won honors for best pop/rock album (1989) and song of the year (“Blank Space“), and as favorite adult contemporary artist of 2015.

Bieber, who also is set to perform, already has room to celebrate: Billboard announced Sunday his new album, “Purpose”, will debut at No. 1 on its charts Monday after selling 649,000 equivalent albums. Carrie Underwood was the favored country female artist and Luke Bryan was the favorite male artist in Country music.

Everyone has been watching out for American Music Awards every year as entertainment’s hottest artists gather for this memorable awards night. The actor recalled an impromptu gig his band played earlier this year at the Bataclan theatre, where 89 people were killed by terrorists 11 days ago.

He added: “Tonight we honour the victims of the unimaginable violence that took place in Paris and around the world”.

Bieber closed the three-hour awards show with a medley of his hits, complete with an on-stage rain shower. “France matters, Russian Federation matters, Syria matters, Mali matters, the Middle East matters, the United States matters, the entire world matters and peace is possible”.

Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor brought the lyrics of their song, “Marvin Gaye“, to life when they had a full-blown make-out session onstage after performing the tune.

In the new year, Bieber will embark on a North American tour to promote his new album, and will hit several Canadian cities including Vancouver, Ottawa, Quebec City, Toronto and Edmonton.

The Anaconda rapper had just won the favourite rap/hip hop album for The Pinkprint but something had annoyed Minaj by the end of her acceptance speech.

One particularly risqué outfit was a see-through flesh-flashing silver design that showed off her famous curves and major cleavage. Rihanna was named the Favorite Female Soul/R&B Artist while music from the movie Pitch Perfect 2 was chosen Top Soundtrack.
