Taylor Swift’s 1989 is the fastest selling album in a decade
The reign of “1989” puts Swift on track to outdo Adele’s much-lauded “21“, which took 42 weeks to hit 5 million in late 2011.
Taylor Swift’s unsinkable album “1989” continues to rack up accolades.
Adding even more accolades to her unimaginably long roster of success is the fact that 1989 is actually Taylor’s third album to sell over 5 million copies, following both her self-titled debut and her album Fearless.
Swift is now on her 1989 world tour to promote the album and has played a number of dates in London and Dublin. According to sales numbers from Nielsen music, Swift’s newest pop album hit the $500 million mark in total USA sales by its 36th week, which is a feat that hasn’t been accomplished since 2004 when Usher released “Confessions“, which reached the $5 million milestone in just nineteen weeks on sale. “1989” is also the most recent album since Adele’s “21” to sell five million copies.
“Blank Space” was released late previous year as the second single off Swift’s massively successful fifth studio album 1989.
It’s a record-breaking week for Taylor: earlier this week, her music video for Blank Space became the fastest video to top one billion views on Vevo.
