Taylor Swift’s Latest ‘Ronan’ Performance Brings Audience To Tears As Singer
Taylor wrote the song in 2012 after reading a blog about Ronan Thompson who died from neuroblastoma just three days before his fourth birthday.
The 25 year old singer started by saying how one of the bravest things anyone could ever do is to experience something unbearable and to share it with the world. “Um… and… so because Maya is right there, I’d like for you to give her a round of applause”.
Maya, who is billed as the co-writer of the song, posted several Instagram shots of her family enjoying the concert, including Ronan’s sister Pearl dancing herself into exhaustion.
Taylor Swift teared up throughout a passionate one-off performance of her most poignant song Ronan. “There’s a woman here tonight named Maya Thompson…and I wouldn’t know half as much as I know about childhood cancer and childhood cancer research if she hadn’t shared her story about her son Ronan“. There were no red flags and she felt perfectly fine, but she did it just to get me and my brother off her case about it.
But during her show in Glendale, Ariz., on Monday night (Aug. 17), Taylor did something she’d never done on her 1989 Tour before – or any of her other tours, for that matter – when she performed “Ronan”, a song she’s only sung live once before. “And since then, I’ve had cancer hit really close to me in my family”, she added.
“The results came in, and I’m saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer”.
The 25-year-old has only ever performed the song in public once before, as part of a Stand Up 2 Cancer telethon. I still can’t believe you did this.
Taylor provides an emotional performance of Ronan The words had additional which means for Tay due to her own mom’s cancer fight. ‘This will forever be one of the most special moments of my life.
Thompson later acknowledged the emotional moment on Instagram, sharing a clip of Swift’s speech with the caption: “I still can’t believe tonight”. All the proceeds from the single’s sales went to cancer charities, including the Ronan Thompson Foundation.
