Taylor Swift Tears Up During Closing Arguments of Groping Trial
Before the trial’s closing arguments, the judge had thrown out the Denver-based DJ’s case against Swift but allowed the assault allegation to continue being considered.
The outpouring of emotion came after an attorney for former DJ David Mueller, who’s accused of grabbing Swift’s rear end during a 2013 photo-op, told the jury that it never happened. “Swift’s counterclaim for a single dollar – a single symbolic dollar, the value of which is immeasurable to all women in this situation”. McFarland said while showing the photograph of Mueller and Swift at the backstage event. Swift then countersued and is seeking an emblematic $1. David Mueller meant to cause an offensive or harmful physical contact with Taylor Swift or meant to place her in apprehension of such contact; and 2. “But it’s not that guy”, the lawyer, Gabriel McFarland, said.
When pressed if she thought Mueller got what he deserved when he was sacked, Taylor said: “I don’t feel anything about Mr. Mueller”.
Swift was awarded the nominal $1 in damages she had asked for, capping an emotional day for the “Bad Blood” singer, who had broken down in tears during the closing arguments.
The case was largely fought on the credibility of Swift and Mueller.
The singer became emotional in court as Mueller’s attorney questioned whether her smiling face in the photo was that of a person who was upset. It was at this point that Swift herself turned away from McFarland and the jury and started to blow her nose and wipe her eyes.
After the alleged 2013 incident, Swift had told her mother and members of her team that someone had grabbed her, and in court, Swift’s mother Andrea Swift said that they had decided not to go to the police but instead tell KYGO.
Fans of Taylor Swift have responded with derision to a series of dodgy courtroom sketches of the pop star.
The jury, comprised of six women and two men, also found the singer’s mother, Andrea Swift, not liable for tortious interference.
Swift also made it clear that it was a “very long grab. long enough for me to be completely sure it was intentional” and that “it was not “jostling.””. The singer’s accusations simply did not make sense and were inconsistent with what others had to say happened that night, McFarland said.
