Taylor Swift to host 2016 Met Gala

The theme is the future, inspired by the Costume Institute’s upcoming “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology” exhibit.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is already planning its annual event and has already announced details of highly anticipated 2016 Met Gala.

The theme chosen for the gala each year reflects the theme of the Costume Institute exhibition and dictates what Met Gala attendees should wear.

The event is a star-studded occasion to rival the big Hollywood awards nights, and the 2015 gala was attended by the likes of Beyonce, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. “But recently this distinction has become increasingly blurred as both disciplines have embraced the practices and techniques of the other”.

They will share the job with US Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, designers Karl Lagerfeld, Nicolas Ghesquiere, and Miuccia Prada, as well as Apple’s chief design officer Jonathan Ive.

On May 2, 2016, about 100 pieces of handmade couture items will be featured alongside machine-made, ready-to-wear garments, showcasing new technologies such as thermo-shaping, circular knitting and the like.
