Taylor Swift Will Have Her Own Channel on AT&T’s DirecTV Now
DirecTV subscribers pay even more – an average of $118 per month for satellite TV, according to data from UBS and AT&T.
Beginning Nov. 30, AT&T will release DirecTV Now, a video streaming service with varying package options for channels and streaming capabilities. It’ll cost you $35, $50, $60 and $70 per month, respectively.
AT&T is hoping to catch the eye of cord cutters by offering the $60 Go Big package for $35, and by including a free Apple TV for anyone paying for three months up front. There are four tiers of DirecTV Now – Live a Little, Just Right, Go Big and Gotta Have It.
It really is a totally new approach to TV.
The DirecTV Now debut brings with it several details about the service that were previously unknown.
AT&T and DirecTV pulled the lid off their new streaming service Monday: DirecTV Now.
DirecTV Now is available an a range of devices including Amazon Fire and Fire TV Stick, Apple TV, Android and iOS phones and tablets, Chromecast and other Google Cast-enabled devices and the web.
“It is really important to understand that this is the foundation for how we are going to do things in the future”, John Stankey, chief executive of AT&T’s entertainment group, said at a media event in NY.
AT&T Update: How Does DirecTV Work?
AT&T also teamed up with Reese Witherspoon, who will launch a video-on-demand channel on the new streaming service called Hello Sunshine, which will feature content aimed at women. AT&T will provide a limited amount of free content through the DirecTV Now app to give people a sample of what’s available. The most conspicuous omission there is Roku, which AT&T says will come sometime next year. By paying for 3 months pre-paid package of your choice, you get an Apple TV player for free, complete with Siri Remote. “Our new customer-centric offers show that mobility and entertainment are better together”, added Stankey. Potential customers can open and account sign up for a 7-day trial at the DirecTV Now website, and then download and sign into the app on their supported devices. AT&T is giving its wireless subscribers free access to Fullscreen for a year, it said. The move into OTT by AT&T was first announced in March 2016.
After its launch, Taylor Swift NOW will also include regular updates with new videos and chapters for special events.
