TCU quarterback apologizes for arrest
TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin has been released on bond from a San Antonio jail after being arrested on charges of striking a police officer outside a bar during an early-morning altercation.
Authorities charged the quarterback with assaulting a public servant in the third degree, a felony.
Saturday’s Valero Alamo Bowl Game was rocked when TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin and another teammate were arrested after an incident at a River Walk bar early Thursday morning after they were heckled by another patron.
Boykin was a one-time Heisman Trophy contender.
McManus said the officer allegedly struck by Boykin was treated for a swollen face and bruised but was otherwise OK. The police report said Boykin was taken to the ground, where the struggle continued until police threatened to use a Taser. The officer who separated the employees from Boykin’s group described the player as “very aggressive” but apparently decided not to arrest him on site as the group “stated they would get him back to the hotel” at which they were all staying. Police apparently tried to break up the fight, at which point a still-swinging Boykin hit an officer. They say they’re not passing judgment on Boykin’s actions.
TCU also suspended junior wide receiver Preston Miller for the Alamo Bowl, but Miller’s infraction was not announced. He came back. He was finally subdued after being threated with a (stun gun). The dual-threat quarterback from Dallas is second nationally with 381 total yards per game, but missed a game in November after awkwardly twisting his right ankle in a win over Kansas. He was expected to be fully healthy for the Alamo Bowl.
Boykin is a senior who passed for 3,575 yards, 31 touchdowns and 10 interceptions this season.
Florida State star running back Dalvin Cook was held to 33 yards with a touchdown and a lost fumble, one of five Seminoles turnovers. Meacham and his fellow co-coordinator, Sonny Cumbie, said they’re leaning toward starting senior Bram Kohlhausen over redshirt freshman Foster Sawyer against OR but have yet to make a final decision.
“We’re disappointed. I don’t know all the facts”.
