TCU’s comeback over OR matches largest in national bowl history
Kohlhausen went 28 for 45 for 351 yards and 2 touchdowns.
“Let me say this: I did the same thing at Iowa State”. This is a night I never thought would happen. He separated from me just a tad bit so I couldn’t make the pick.
Yet if there’s one person who’s most culpable for this meltdown it’s the head coach.
“Very disappointed for our guys, not disappointed in our guys one bit”, OR coach Mark Helfrich said. Instead, TCU fought back like they did all season, showing the heart and grit that it takes for a team to battle through adversity to come out on top. Then the Ducks were forced to play the entire second half without their starting quarterback and starting center, and it showed as they were held to just 18 (!!!) yards of offense the last two quarters.
Ducks fans had a great time celebrating what they thought would be an easy victory in the first half; the second half was a completely different story.
Bowl season may have been a disappointment, but Oregon’s collapse and TCU’s massive rally ensured that we’d see finally some fireworks to kick off 2016.
After Kohlhausen’s go-ahead run, his pass on a two-point conversion was incomplete. TCU kicker Jaden Oberkrom made a 46-yard kick to tie the score. The offense scored 31 points, and the defense pitched a shutout.
A junior and the school’s all-time leader in yards passing (8,457) and touchdowns (48), Hackenberg completed 8 of 14 for 139 yards against Georgia. “I don’t think anybody walking out of that tunnel in the second half really had a doubt that with their quarterback out, 31 points, we get something on the board, we get a couple of turnovers, defensive plays well …” Kohlhausen threw a touchdown pass to Jaelen Austin, and then ran 2 yards for his first score.
TCU and OR ranked third and fourth, respectively, in the nation in average yards per game.
Collins had touchdown runs of 22 yards and 13 yards in the first 17 minutes.
TCU quarterback Bram Kohlhausen (6) runs for a touchdown against OR during the third overtime of the Alamo Bowl NCAA college football game, Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, in San Antonio.
What channel is the Alamo Bowl featuring OR vs. TCU on?
OR dominated for the majority of the first half, scoring 31 points and leading at halftime.
Taj Griffin would get the drive started and get the Ducks to near mid field.
West Virginia 43, Arizona State 42: Skyler Howard threw for a Cactus Bowl-record 532 yards and hit David Sills on a 15-yard pass for his fifth touchdown with 2:19 left, lifting West Virginia to a wild win early Sunday. He walked off the field and was taken into the locker room. OR totaled only 18 yards regulation in the second half. Carrington had seven catches for 107 yards and a touchdown.
But the finger injury in the opener against Eastern Washington hampered him for the first half of the season. TCU was without their starting quarterback, Trevone Boykin, following a bar dispute in the days before.
