Teacher strike set for tomorrow [Tuesday]
Phil Clarke, NUT national executive member for Brighton and East Sussex, said: “Rather than wasting hundreds of millions of pounds on forced privatisation of all schools through the academy programme the government should be protecting all teachers’ terms and conditions and spending the money on children’s education”. The turn out was 24.5 percent.
Kevin Courtney, NUT acting general secretary, said: “The NUT is taking strike action in response to the funding crisis in our schools, which is impacting on teachers’ terms and conditions and children’s education”.
The union called the walkout over its concerns about school funding and the deregulation of national terms and conditions for teachers, but the government accused it of “playing politics with children’s futures”. Inadequate levels of funding are having a negative effect on both children and teachers that can not go unaddressed.

She added: “Teachers are the last line of defence for our students’ education and the chaotic policies of this government is leaving it to ruin as they pursue their dogged ideologies”.

Amersham School, Amersham – school is open to Year 7 students. Teaching posts are being cut or not filled when staff leave. Unit 1 and 2 to attend school as normal.
They accepted the impact of the strike will vary between schools, as other school staff are members of other unions and associations. KS1 sports day will still be on at 9.30am in the morning.
Schools across Somerset could shut on Tuesday when teachers take strike action.
The National Union of Teachers (NUT) has confirmed that strike action is planned across the country tomorrow (Tuesday, July 5) over national disputes around pay and working conditions.
During the March 2014 action over pay, pensions and conditions nearly 3,000 of England’s schools closed completely while many had to implement reduced timetables.
“Our advice first and foremost is to check with your school”.
In Worcester, St Clement’s CE Primary School will also be closed except for the pre-school.
A Sheffield Council spokesman said nine local authority-maintained schools will be closed and a further 63 will be partially open today as a result of the strike.
