Team Irvin defeats Team Rice 49-27, Seahawks’ Russell Wilson named MVP
The league first tried to make changes in 2010, when the NFL moved the Pro Bowl from the week following the Super Bowl to the week prior, with all players chosen from the two Super Bowl teams exempted from the game.
Seattle’s Russell Wilson threw three first-half touchdown passes to lead Team Irvin to a 49-27 victory over Team Rice on Sunday and earn offensive MVP honors at Aloha Stadium.
Wilson, who was the first player picked in the all-star game’s draft, was 8-for-12 for 164 yards. Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman got a chance to play offense and promptly lost 22 yards on a reverse for Team Irvin in the third quarter.
Team Rice also had Bills representitive linemen Richie Incognito and Eric Wood. Four of them – running back Latavius Murray and defensive end Khalil Mack, in addition to Cooper and Carr – have three or fewer seasons in the NFL.
But that rookie showing by itself wasn’t enough to get Winston into the Pro Bowl. He was voted to the game as a kick-returner, but if Jerry Rice allows him to play much receiver he could bust some big plays.
Raiders quarterback Derek Carr was among the leaders for Team Rice, completing 14 of 25 passes for 198 yards and a touchdown.
It was the 35th time the NFL’s annual all-star game was played at Aloha Stadium dating to 1980, and the third consecutive season that it has used an “unconferenced” format.
Tampa Bay linebacker Lavonte David had five tackles, four solo, for Team Irvin, which had six interceptions. QBs Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Cam Newton, Carson Palmer and Aaron Rodgers all elected to skip the Pro Bowl.
This is your Pro Bowl Open Thread. Team Rice’s 4-yard touchdown pass to Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce from Giants quarterback Eli Manning answered by a 14-yard strike from Wilson to Falcons receiver Julio Jones.
The 2016 NFL Pro Bowl featured stars facing off against each other in Honolulu, Hawaii. Winston made it a 28-point game with a 7-yard dart to Hopkins, who finished with three catches for 71 yards.
However, we get to see two of our own, DeAndre Hopkins and Jon Weeks, play this week on Team Irvin, headed by professional loudmouth Michael Irvin.
The only negative to the game was the injury to tight end Tyler Eifert, who left the game in a walking boot with a foot injury after injuring himself while diving for a catch.
