Team to sign Steph Curry when moratorium lifts — Warriors GM
Can the Celtics gel in like the Heat?
What’s the motivation here from Hayward?
Will they strike out on Hayward too – and what will happen if they do?
So who’ll be the next to change teams? And he’s not Shaquille O’Neal or Alonzo Mourning, whom Riley got to kick-start big eras. It would be a drop-off in scoring to replace Hayward with Porter, but with the defensive-minded Jazz, this could be the ideal pairing between franchise and player.
But let’s be realistic.
As the clock struck midnight, July 1st marks one of the most exciting portions of the National Basketball Association year: free agency and a flurry of trades.
But it’s not as if Danny Ainge can simply put that money back in the bank if he whiffs on the 6-foot-8 All-Star. The Celtics are positioned perfectly. Boston has a great roster of players so IN will not be disappointed if they wait and make a trade with the team.
Hayward is living in San Diego this offseason, for one thing.
Hayward, who meets with Miami today, also has time scheduled with the Celtics as well as the Jazz.
With the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers meeting in the NBA Finals for three straight years, it seems to be inevitable that they will dominate the league yet again in 2018.
Boston Celtics: The Celtics have been involved in plenty of rumors since the midway point of last season, but up until this point, they have struck out on players like Paul George and Jimmy Butler.
He’s 28. He checks all the boxes of scoring, rebounding and passing.
The Miami Heat haven’t been the same since Lebron James and Dwyane Wade made a decision to take their talents out of South Beach.
Some believed formalities took place early, as Blake Griffin made a decision to stay with the L.A. Clippers for a five-year deal worth around $175 million. They aren’t straight and simple additions to the roster. But that fizzled Friday when the Indiana Pacers dealt George to the Oklahoma City Thunder for a paltry return. James Johnson? Dion Waiters?
With this year’s salary cap set at $99 million, players with 10-plus years of service are eligibile to sign five-year max contracts at $201.2 million. The Boston Celtics are at the top of the list for being the most interested.
But that would be my Plan B. Plan A should be Blake Griffin. Hayward remains their last beam of hope. The Jazz ended a four-year playoff drought last season.
Asked by the Boston Globe about the Heat-Celtics competition, Boston forward Jaylen Brown said, “I think we’re a better fit”. Porter is a restricted free agent but at the right price the Celtics can pry him away.
