Team USA tries to defend gold in women’s 4x100m medley
Vollmer, along with Lilly King, Kathleen Baker, and Simone Manuel – won gold in the 4×100-meter medley relay Saturday.
Simone Manuel anchored the United States women’s 4×100 metres medley relay team to victory on Saturday for her second gold medal of the Rio Olympics.
The swimming event marks the nation’s 1,000th gold.
Australia were second, 1.87 seconds behind, with bronze going to Denmark just 1 hundredth further back.
At the 2012 London Games, the USA won the 4x100m medley with a world-record time of 3:52.05, marking the fourth Olympics in a row that saw a world record set in the event. Denmark grabbed bronze with 3:55.01.

King won two gold medals, while Baker won a gold and a silver.
The women’s team was stacked with swimmers who’ve made waves at this Olympic Games.
Baker swam the backstroke, which is the opening leg of the medley. It was her first Olympic Games.
All four women have won multiple medals in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Simone Manuel, the first African American woman to win an individual swimming event at the Olympics, won four medals – two gold, two silver – in four events in Rio. The Americans have won three of the last five golds, including the last one in London while setting the world record.
