Techie goes on stabbing spree, cops shoot him
A 28-year-old was shot dead by police after he went berserk on the streets in Karimnagar early on Tuesday morning, attacking his parents and several others with a sword.
Singh, who worked for a software firm in Bengaluru, was staying with his parents for the past one month and undergoing treatment for mental depression and other psychological problems. In a fit of rage, he picked up a sword and attacked them, causing serious injuries. The police overpowered the techie, identified as Balwinder Singh, by shooting him.
Around 6 am on Tuesday, he rushed out of his house brandishing a sword, striking terror among the residents. When our team reached there, he even attacked two of our men and tried to snatch a pistol from our CI. At least 20 people had been attacked by him.
Witnesses said Singh also injured himself with the sword and damaged a auto parked nearby. But the youth was uncontrollable and attacked head constable U Mallaiah and constable Ali. He was shot and then taken to the government hospital. Speaking to Balwinder’s relatives and friends, who complained that the techie was shot in cold blood, the DIG said the circumstances that led to the firing, the way the gun was aimed, would also be investigated. Officer on Special Duty, Karimnagar, L Subba Rayudu said that Balvinder’s father was severely injured in the attack. Singh’s father is recovering while mother is in a highly critical condition. “Then only will we be able to assess as to what actually prompted him (Balvinder) to behave like that”, Subba Rayudu told PTI. “This seems to be a clear case of depression though we are probing the matter in detail”, the police official added.
