Ted Cruz begins New Hampshire push amid Trump drama
Gov. John Kasich says if Bernie Sanders is the Democratic nominee for president, “we’re going to win every state”.
The governor says Cruz’s remarks could wind up hurting him in the polls because they were offensive to more than just New Yorkers.
I think it’s interesting that Trump … basically said at [a] family values forum he’s never asked for forgiveness, but yet he is Christian. “I’m hoping that Ted Cruz doesn’t actually feel that way”.
The New York Times reported Friday that Cruz wrote a letter the day before to federal-election officials to say both bank-loan disclosures had been “inadvertently omitted”.
Then Trump slammed Cruz on not disclosing a Goldman Sachs loan, writing, “Ted Cruz said he “didn’t know” that he was a Canadian Citizen”. He has criticized the Republican front-runner throughout his campaign for president, even calling his fellow New Yorker’s rhetoric “dangerous”. “I am already hearing more and more people getting fed up with the low road you’re taking against Cruz, which has obviously intensified this morning”.
In one of several heated exchanges during the debate, Cruz questioned rival Donald Trump’s conservatism, saying he has “New York values”. “You cant be tea party and at the same time support the ethanol mandate because it’s good politics in Iowa and support the sugar subsidies because it’s good politics in Florida”.
Shmuley Boteach, a New Jersey rabbi and former congressional candidate who has been introducing Cruz to New York Jews, told MSNBC he didn’t take the Texas senator’s “New York values” attack too seriously.
According to CNN, on Friday Cruz did not directly apologize for his comments but instead said he apologized “to the millions of New Yorkers who have been let down by the liberal politicians” in the state.
New York City became a hot topic during the debate when Cruz clashed with Donald Trump over his “New York values”. He’s now tightened the space between him and Cruz in Iowa.
“He’s a nasty guy”, Mr. Trump said on ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos”. “And I don’t think to divide people against each other”, Mr. Rubio said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press”.
Trump and Cruz are surging in the polls, in part, because they’ve successfully tapped into conservative anger about the direction of the country.
Not a lot of New Yorkers have given money to Cruz’s bid for the White House.
