Ted Cruz Endorses Donald Trump
“I have spent several months thinking about it, praying about the right course of action, and I’ve discussed the right course of action with both Heidi and my dad, both of whom I love with all my heart”, Cruz told The Texas Tribune.
Cruz, who argued that Trump has liberal “New York values” at odds with conservatism, defeated Trump in Iowa, but was unable to follow up that momentum.
Let’s be clear here.
Mr Cruz, who was Trump’s closest rival, pulled out of the race for presidential candidacy for the Republican party in May after being defeated in the in primary.
When Mr Cruz addressed the Republican National Convention in July in Cleveland, where Mr Trump accepted the nomination, he declined to endorse Mr Trump and was essentially booed off stage by the NY businessman’s supporters. To spare you from having to read all 722 words, the gist is that he’s endorsing Donald Trump. Clinton, we know beyond a shadow of doubt, would veto that legislation.
The expanded group that includes Blackwell and nine other names was released Friday, and Trump called it a “definitive” list he would use to tap a nominee.
After Cruz gave his speech at the convention, in what appeared to be a symbolic act of shunning by his own party, he was blocked from entering billionaire Republican donor Sheldon Adelson’s luxury box at Cleveland’s Quicken Loans arena. What he does have is political ambition, ambition potentially threatened by not climbing into the GOP tent and supporting a “pathological liar”/”serial philanderer”. The last position, and a policy that Cruz has advocated strongly for recently, is the defense of internet freedom. That would be a most interesting battle to watch. “Submissive conformity to Trump – a man who personally slandered Cruz’s family and hasn’t apologized – just cements Trump as the unopposed alpha in the GOP and hangs Cruz’s conservative resistance out to dry”. But I kind of like the equation put forth Friday by John Ziegler, a conservative talk show talker.
Sen. Cruz is misjudging the future direction of his party. “Then he non-endorsed with max damage and caved for zero gain”.
Cruz cited two reasons for his shift.
In recent days, signs of a tentative peace between the Cruz and Trump camps had begun to surface conspicuously. And, yes, Cruz now looks like he caved. In a lengthy Facebook post, the failed Republican presidential candidate said he’s planning on voting for Donald Trump this November. “Hillary Clinton is manifestly unfit to be president, and her policies would harm millions of Americans”, he said.
But in the end, he decided, Trump “is the only thing standing in the way” of a Clinton presidency that he said would be devastating to the United States.
