Ted Cruz: ‘The Overwhelming Majority of Violent Criminals Are Democrats’
The Texas lawmaker was asked about the shooting, which left three dead, during a radio interview with Hugh Hewitt Monday.
To the extent that there’s any meaningful content to what Ted Cruz is saying, I think there, he was sort of getting his facts backwards.
Listen, here’s the simple and undeniable fact. They go in and fight to give the right to vote to convicted felons. Why?
Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz is facing backlash from critics who challenge his claim that “the overwhelming majority of violent criminals are Democrats”. Only three – New York, New Mexico and North Carolina.
A rep for the Cruz campaign said the senator was referencing a paper titled “Do Voting Rights Notification Laws Increase Ex-Felon Turnout?”
Meanwhile, a follow-up study by Meredith and Morse looking at Iowa, Maine and Rhode Island found that, in those states, discharged felons actually are more likely to not affiliate with any party.
The study also states that most ex-felons in NY registered as Democrats after being convicted, but that does not mean that they were Democrats at the time they committed their crimes.
In other words, the study does not show what Cruz claimed.
The Nevada Democrat pointed to businessman Donald Trump’s refusal to disavow a supporter who beat up a Black Lives Matter protester, Ben Carson’s comparison of refugees to dogs, and Sen. The mudslinging continued as Cruz said reporters “desperately” hope murderers are Republicans and “you can almost see the media salivating…so they can use it to try to paint their political enemies”.
Reid added that he was “amazed” that Cruz “had the audacity” to say that most violent criminals are Democrats. Sen.
Cruz claimed that elected officials appoint “senior Justice Department officials” and lawyers who “lionize” and “glorify” cop killers.
His comments came as Cruz discussed the shootings at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado – which Democrats have followed with calls for the GOP to stop denouncing the organization and pushing for its defunding on Capitol Hill. “The overwhelming majority of violent criminals are Democrats”.
