Teddy Bridgewater Reportedly Nearing Jets Contract After 4 Years with Vikings
Yes, they told McCown during the re-signing process – as a league source confirmed to NJ Advance Media – that he would go into the offseason workout program (and probably also training camp) as the team’s starting quarterback.
The Vikings have offered the free agent quarterback a three-year, $86 million deal, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
It’s been a long two years for Teddy Bridgewater since a devastating knee injury threw the brakes on a promising career.
Prior to the injury, Bridgewater had the full support of Minnesota’s coaching staff as a popular breakout candidate.
The Jets have now agreed to deals with two quarterbacks in the legal-tampering period as they reportedly have signed up last year’s starting QB Josh McCown to a one-year, $10 million deal.
For those wondering where the pen and paper is, per ESPN, McCown said he signed the deal with an electronic signature on his phone. NY will be the team, in a fitting twist, to give former Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater a chance to become a starter again in the NFL. It is also worth noting that the Vikings have since landed Kirk Cousins.
Last season, the Jets were paced by the veteran signal caller McCown, who accounted for 2,926 yards and 18 touchdowns in contrast to nine interceptions.
Crowell is joining the Jets on a three-year contract, adding depth to their backfield following the retirement of Matt Forte.
His deal with the Jets has not yet been completed, however.
He was sidelined for 14 months during his recovery and placed on the PUP list, where he spent the first six weeks of the 2017 season. The Jets now only have slot corner Buster Skrine as a starter under contract. Bridgewater believes he is ready to be a starter, however, he has not seen any real game action since the 2015 season. It gives the Jets a physical back and decreases the likelihood of the Jets using a draft pick on the position in April, allowing them to focus more on premium positions. In the Jets base 3-4 defense Williamson will most likely take Josh Martin’s spot and will play alongside Demario Davis, Darron Lee and Jordan Jenkins.
