Teddy Bridgewater’s stunning injury: He’s out for the season
He hasn’t revealed much more than that since then about how he plans to split the playing time. This would have been Teddy’s third year in Minnesota after being drafted out of Louisville.
Bridgewater’s mother, Rose Murphy, told Teddy when he was 14 years old that she had breast cancer. He probably won’t play on Thursday when the Vikings host St. Louis in their final exhibition game.
Zimmer spoke at an afternoon news conference before the full extent of the injury was known.
Zimmer addressed the team in full and was clearly upset for Bridgewater, a player he quickly bonded with after he was drafted in the first round in 2014. With reigning league rushing champion Adrian Peterson now 31 and due to make $18 million in 2017, it’s quite possible that Bridgewater and Peterson will never play another game together.
“I have confidence in Shaun”, coach Mike Zimmer said. I apologize to my family, teammates, Baylor University and our fans for my actions. (Bridgewater) wasn’t saying much. He said, ‘No, I’ve got the big one here. He has been in two-minute drills. It isn’t a one-man deal. “However we have to do it, if it’s running the ball 65 times or throwing it 65 times, it doesn’t really matter”. We have a good defensive team. This year, Hill hit on 10 of his 17 passes for 129 yards while starting in Bridgewater’s place on August 18 in Seattle, and while the Vikings weren’t hoping to have to use him during the regular season, they can at least take solace in the fact Hill has been here before.
Coach Mike Zimmer confirmed the injury a few hours after an ambulance took Bridgewater from the practice field to a nearby hospital. Zimmer said he and general manager Rick Spielman “have been talking about” the possibility of bringing in a veteran quarterback.
The Rams head into Minnesota looking to get their offense rolling before the season opens next week and while it is clear that this is Todd Gurley’s team now in terms of workload they do have some other candidates who are capable of alleviating some pressure and that is namely in the form of Tavon Austin.
Bridgewater missed the second preseason game with a sore shoulder, but was very sharp on Sunday against San Diego.
Sullivan started 93 of 109 regular season games and three of four playoff games after replacing Matt Birk as the starter in 2009. Tuesday, though, was a real downer for a team that has aspirations of winning the Super Bowl.
The Vikings entered their wild-card matchup against the Seattle Seahawks as underdogs, but took a 9-0 lead into the fourth quarter in frigid conditions.
Backup linebacker Zach Vigil, who is recovering from a back injury, was also placed on the non-football injury list. The Lions may not necessarily become a Wild Card team or NFC North champion in 2016 because of this injury but it will surely help their chances at doing so. “But everything they’ve talked about and hope to accomplish is still there in front of them”. Bridgewater was everything the Vikings needed him to be, completing 65.3 per cent of his passes and improving his quarterback rating to 88.from the 85.2 mark he posted as a rookie. “We’re going to grieve today and be upset about it”. “The sun came up the next day”. People kept going to work.
“This would just start out the year the way that we have been in the last couple of years just bad luck keeps on rolling with us”, Noble said. The Vikings still can contend because their strengths revolve around Peterson and the defense.
“We’re not going to stick our heads in the sand, tuck our tail between our legs”, Zimmer later added. “Everybody can count us out if they want, but I think that’d be the wrong thing to do”. Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson wrote, “Praying for you, ” and Oakland quarterback Derek Carr wrote, “I hope you are good bro!” “We have maybe the best running back in the NFL”, Zimmer said.
