Teddy Bridgewater suffers knee injury at Vikings practice
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater suffered a “significant” injury on Tuesday that could be season-threatening.
The Vikings updated Bridgewater’s status tonight, as he suffered a complete tear of his ACL, a dislocated knee, and other injuries, but he didn’t suffer nerve or arterial damage.
“This is about a team and about us trying to find a way to win football games”, he said. Bridgewater will have surgery in the next few days, and is expected to make a full recovery.
Teddy Bridgewater has a long road to recovery ahead of him, but expect him to come back, stronger and better than ever.
Dressed in purple pride on Tuesday, Vikings fans had a tough time enjoying The Great Minnesota Get-Together after word of Teddy Bridgewater’s injury spread on social media.
Shaun Hill is the new starter.
For the past two seasons, Vikings Head Coach Mike Zimmer has worked with General Manager Rick Spielman to build a team around quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.
“Let’s let the kid. let’s let him get healthy”, Zimmer said. Zimmer said Bridgewater was sedated and was undergoing an MRI as he spoke. “He’ll be back as soon as he possibly can be if it is real bad, but we’re going to keep fighting”. We’re not going to put our heads in the sand.
Bridgewater was injured when he dropped back to pass during a drill and planted his foot.
The team was looking to build upon last year’s successes and take a step forward in 2016, which will be more hard to do if Bridgewater is sidelined.
The team’s next preseason game is Thursday against the St. Louis Rams. Players immediately gathered around Bridgewater and the training staff and began praying.
With Teddy now potentially lost for the season, the Vikings will have to turn to veteran Shaun Hill over the short term.
The only other quarterback on the Vikings roster is undrafted rookie Joel Stave from Wisconsin.
The Vikings upgraded the offensive line this offseason, and they have one of the most dynamic rushers in the league in Adrian Peterson.
“The thing we have to all remember is that this is about the team; this isn’t about a one-man deal”. We have a good team, we have a good defensive team.
