Teen arrested in connection with headless body ordered held without bail
On Saturday, an arrest was made in connection with the death of a Lawrence, Massachusetts, teen whose body was found decapitated on a river bank. Authorities have not yet commented on a motive.
While Rivera gave his press conference Friday, detectives were back scouring the riverbank where Viloria-Paulino’s body was found.
Borges was believed to be a classmate of Viloria-Paulino at Lawrence High, according to Blodgett.
The boys attended Lawrence High School, but it was not clear how well they knew each other.
Viloria-Paulio’s family filed a missing person’s report, fearing the worst, but heartbroken relatives said police ignored the case.
“We disagree with the investigation of the police at the beginning”, said Viloria-Paulino’s grandfather, Gustavo Paulino, outside the family home.
Adding, ‘We want to secure justice for the family’.
Borges told police he and Viloria-Paulino liked the way the boat house on the river lit up at night and that’s why they went to smoke there. He doesn’t think Lee would have run away from home.
Authorities have not said why Mathew allegedly killed and then decapitated the teen, though police claim Mathew confessed afterward.
‘He was a nice boy, he was an excellent child, ‘ she said.
“This is obviously shocking and disconcerting news, however, based upon our investigation, we believe it is an isolated incident”, said Blodgett.
Police are on the scene at McCabe Court in Lawrence, where they said a body was found Thursday afternoon.
The teen’s official cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy, the North Andover Patch reported.
Mayor Dan Rivera said the homicide was “not a random act” and said the public was not at risk for additional acts of violence.
Police Chief Fitzpatrick said that the people of Lawrence are safe and are not at risk as the result of the beheading. “And from very early on, who they have in custody now, we knew that he had left with my son and that his story did not make sense”.
