Teen battling cancer asks Miss New Jersey to be homecoming date
With homecoming approaching, the senior wanted to make a splash. The reigning Miss New Jersey said yes to his invitation to the big dance Saturday.
The Northeastern Senior High School student, Marcus Josey, who is combating leukemia, mentioned that when he found out that Miss New Jersey has accepted his requested to come and dance in school’s homecoming, he really got excited and felt better emotionally as well as physically. Josey thought why not give it a shot?
Hearing of his story, Giannini couldn’t turn him down.
“She was one of my favorites so I guess I picked her”, Josey told the newspaper. “So I kind of went with his instinct and reached out to her”. Josey has been battling lymphoblastic leukemia for about six months.
Josey also said a few of his pals were a little jealous.
Instead of battling opponents on the gridiron, the star football and basketball player is undergoing chemotherapy treatments at Hershey Medical Center. “Those are the kids who I look up to and when I see those kids getting through I just tell myself that I can get through it”. “It may be hard at a few points but just think to yourself that you can get through it and it will be over in the future”, Josey says.
She said the invite was a great idea because she missed her own homecoming four years ago.
