Teen Charged in Classmate’s Beheading Due in Court
The District Attorney released the name of the decapitated victim as Viloria Paulino the 16 year old who has been missing since Friday. According to the Globe, the family said that if police had begun their search in earnest earlier, the teen may still be alive.
Borges is accused of killing 16-year-old Lee Viloria Paulino and then leaving his body along the Merrimack River. A dog walker discovered Vilonia-Paulino’s body and head on Thursday and his remains were identified the following day. According to the police’s statements, the boy was declared missing by his family back in November.
But the police report also said Borges told a witness that he had “done something bad” and that he had “stabbed a kid and cut his head off killing him”.
Borges is being charged as an adult, so court proceedings were open.
Arial footage showed two teams of detectives working in separate spots along the Merrimack River on Thursday and Viloria-Paulino’s relatives were on the scene. Still, the mayor said he is inclined to launch an independent investigation into the handling of Lee’s disappearance.
Authorities are unclear about how the two teens knew each other, she says.
His family reported him missing to police and posted on social media seeking information on his whereabouts, but they said Lawrence police didn’t do their case justice.
“I had years I was trying to have him leave Lawrence, because I didn’t like Lawrence. I mean, it’s sickening”, family friend Linette Perez said.
State and Lawrence police are investigating.
A vigil was held Friday outside Lawrence High School, where classmates said Viloria-Paulino was an extremely likable teen who had no issues with anyone.
Lee’s mother, father, sister and aunts and uncles gathered at the family’s Forest Street home with friends and community members to await news.
“It’s my pain”, she wailed at the press conference.
Lawrence police Chief James X. Fitzpatrick said authorities “believe this is an isolated incident, and that the community is safe”. “This is a serious matter in a very big city with a lot of people”. The investigation is ongoing.
