Teen Choice Awards Recap: Jessica Alba Leads Call to End Gun Violence
The Teen Choice Awards made a bold statement last night with a rousing tribute to the victims of gun violence during the annual broadcast. I’m talking about Aurora, Baton Rouge, Dallas, Minneapolis, Orlando, San Bernardino, Newtown”, Alba said, fighting back tears as she referenced highly-publicized shootings that have taken place in the U.S. “It keeps happening and it has to stop. He continued, “I try to live my life working most closely with, making music with, and spending so much of my time with an wonderful group of people-male, female, gay, straight, every walk of life….”
Crazed fan Kevin Loibl shot her as she signed autographs after her performance.
The show’s Twitter account had, indeed, tweeted out a GIF of Grimmie July 18 calling for fans to “retweet in honor of her memory”. “The fans have a right to be upset”. “Our world lost that champ this year, so tonight, I want to share three pieces of his undying wisdom that has helped me and may help you along your journey”.
All fair points. It’s especially frustrating considering they used Christina’s name to PROMOTE the broadcast – the least they could have done was mention her name!
Another posted, “I’m extremely disappointed by the fact the TCAs didn’t honor Christina Grimmie in any way”.
She added: “And after all the incredible people we just saw on stage, it feels especially important to be part of a film that represents diversity in such a positive way”.
‘So the TCA’s essentially nominated Christina Grimmie after her death for promo and never mentioned her name on air?
Christina’s fans vented their frustrations about the exclusion on social media after the ceremony, and also accused awards show bosses of exploiting her death for ratings by including her among the nominees.
PIX11 News has reached out to FOX for comment.
Other stunts included the wrestler-actor and singer-actress engaging in a 30-second selfie challenge, as well as Justice and Laverne Cox, her co-star in an upcoming remake of “The Rocky Horror Picture”, squirting Cena with water bottles as they explained the movie’s plot.
Christina starred in the U.S. version of The Voice with Maroon 5’s Adam Levine as her mentor.
