Teen dies of alcohol poisoning after parents ‘teach him lesson’ about dangers
A Wyoming woman and her husband have been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the alcohol poisoning death of her 16-year-old son, whom they plied with mixed drinks and shots of scotch to teach him a lesson about drinking, authorities said on Wednesday.
A teen has died after his parents allegedly forced him to drink Fireball and Jack Daniels Whiskey to teach him a lesson about drinking.
So to show him just how harmful alcohol can be, the couple allegedly gave Ball drinks from 8:30 pm until around 10:30 pm on July 6 at their Urie, Wyoming home, reports Uinta County Herald.
So, in an effort to deter him from drinking, Paulette and Joseph gave Ball several shots of alcohol over a two-hour period.
They said the teen took medicine for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, whose label warned users to limit alcohol intake, according to the statement.
Richardson and Paulette L. Richardson said they wanted to teach Paulette’s son a lesson.
When his mother checked on him in bed at around 11pm, he was still alive.
But when his stepfather checked on him at 3.45am, there was no response. The teen had already died from what an autopsy revealed as probable acute alcohol poisoning.
A sheriff’s deputy who responded said Kendall’s “lips and eyelids were dark blue”, his skin was cool to the touch and there were pools of vomit around the room.
Sheriff Doug Matthews said on Tuesday that the incident was “a tragedy”.
Gerrard makes clear that she doesn’t want to interfere with the parenting decisions of others, but when these parenting decisions become deadly, something must be done.
The couple face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
“What I hope people understand, however, is that some traditional parenting love, wives tales or theories don’t apply in an age where we have refined products that accelerate the effect of chemicals on the human body”.
