Teen fatally struck by auto on way to Tampa Bay area school
The annual safety reminder comes one day after a 17-year-old Chamberlain High School student was hit and killed as she walked to campus.
The accident occurred about two blocks west of North Boulevard. The lanes are expected to remain closed for several hours, the police department reported just after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The girl’s death has brought scrutiny to the traffic conditions on Busch, where police say a Cadillac traveling in the center turn lane struck Miranda about 7:15 a.m. Tuesday.
This is not a hit and run; the driver of the vehicle is with police now. She was not in a crosswalk. “That potentially is a violation and we’re looking at all factors”.
The driver hasn’t been charged but detectives are continuing to investigate.
The crash remains under investigation. But police say she was a not-traditional student, who was taking daytime GED classes at Chamberlain High School.
