Teen Killed, Sister Wounded In BART Station Stabbing Attack
Nia and Lahtifa Wilson’s other sister, Malika Harris, was also present when her sisters was stabbed but was not injured herself.

A relative of a teen who was fatally stabbed at a Northern California train station says her cousin was returning home after celebrating her dead boyfriend’s birthday when she was randomly attacked. Some of the “Say Her Name” posts link the attack with white supremacy.

Rojas described the assault as a “prison yard type of attack”, with Cowell allegedly approaching from behind and stabbing Nia Wilson twice in rapid succession.
The suspected murder weapon was found at a construction site near MacArthur station in Oakland where the killing occurred. The woman’s sister was also wounded in the attack. “But he just stood there, like it was nothing”.
Twitter was flooded with condolences for Nia Wilson’s friends and family, as well as anger at the violence.
Wilson attended Oakland High School, Harris said. As for her own injuries, Wilson has stitches in her neck.
Having sat down with the victims’ family, this is the worst time in their life, O’Malley said. Still she’s focused on Nia. Please help me get justice for my daughter’.
Nia and Letifah Wilson were on the Bay Area Rapid Transit in Oakland, California, on Sunday (July 22), on their way home from meeting with family. However, during a train transfer, they were blindsided by Cowell.
Rojas also said that the attack “was, in my close to 30 years of police experience, probably one of the most vicious attacks that I’ve seen”.
That train was stopped at the Pleasant Hill station in Walnut Park, northeast of Oakland. The second is a previous booking photo, and the third is from the night of the stabbing.
‘Up to this point we don’t have any information that was race-motivated, but we can’t discard it, ‘ Rojas said.
There was no audible confrontation between the sisters and the suspect, prior to the attack he said.

Cowell’s lawyer, George Arroyo, slipped out the back door after the hearing and did not respond immediately to a request for comment. “He was living on the streets without the proper treatment”, the family said.
Audio of dispatchers recorded by Broadcastify and obtained by the East Bay Times reflected the attack’s chaotic aftermath.
Court documents show a restraining order was filed in April 2016 by Kaiser Foundation against Cowell. He drowned two years ago in a lake.
Cowell is white, but police say no motive has been established.
A phone call from a BART rider led police to stop and search a Richmond-bound train at the MacArthur Station in Oakland but Cowell wasn’t aboard, Rojas said. I want to again express my condolences to them, first and foremost.
