Teen’s reaction after heart transplant surgery goes viral
A Facebook page that has been set up to support Trevor, Team Trevor, is full of well-wishers and photos and videos of other people who have braved the long waiting list for heart transplants and have underwent the surgery, thanks to generous donors who have opted to become organ donors upon passing. Those are the words uttered by a crying Trevor Sullivan as the 15-year-old was awakening from anesthesia following a successful heart transplant.
Trevor was diagnosed with severe cardiomyopathy last February after feeling ill for about 12 months.
In November 2015, the family came to know about the availability of a new heart for their son and the surgery was scheduled the next day.
Sullian’s mother filmed the first few moments after he woke up, and his reaction is remarkable.
“I can breathe again”, Trevor says in the video.
“I really like the video”, Trevor, of Detroit, Mich., tells ABC.
“Do you feel good?” his father Philip Sullivan asks, to which Trevor responds in short elated breaths: “I feel incredible…”
Nonetheless, Mr Sullivan had a message for the donor’s family.
Sullivan explained in an interview that his son’s heart was so enlarged that it was putting pressure on his lungs. The 15-year-old continues to go through recovery, but he has not had any complications. “It promotes organ donation and people can see the outcome of it and how happy they really are”, Trevor said. I think it’s really cool and I wish everyone in the world can see it because it really makes a difference.
