Teen Severely Injured Attempting Viral Challenge
A teenage boy is recovering in hospital after suffering serious injuries and possible permanent damage to his eye while playing the popular “Duct tape challenge”.
A Washington teen is recovering after taking part in a “duct tape challenge” that went horribly wrong.
The challenge, which has been spreading since people began sharing themselves and friends taking part on YouTube, sees a participant wrapped in duct tape – often while tied to a chair. He then fell while attempting to break free of the tape, hitting his head on a metal window frame and crushing his eye socket and cheek bone when he landed on the concrete.
The Renton teen was rushed to Harborview Medical Center, where he got 48 staples from ear to ear to close the head wound. Some videos uploaded to YouTube showing people attempting the challenge have millions of views.
His mother, Sarah Fish, told Buzzfeed News that Fish is “really lucky to be alive” after doctors said his injuries were similar to auto crash victims and those kicked by horses.
“Teach other kids not to do it. When I think about it, like I become sad”.
Skylar shattered his eye socket and cheekbone and needed immediate surgery for bleeding in his brain.
“If he would have hit on it differently, an inch over, he could have died”, his mother, Sarah Fish, told KCPQ.
Skylar Fish fell when his legs and arms were taped up.
“Like most teens, Sky liked to do fun things with his friends that he didnt always like to tell me about, for fear of mom not letting him”, she wrote.
“When I think about it, it seems like I was hit by a auto”, Fish explained.
Sarah Fish also started a GoFundMe page for her son’s recovery.
