Teen snowboarder found dead on Mount Washington
More than 24 search members from Campbell River and the Comox Valley were onsite for the search alongside Mount Washington Ski Patrol.
A 15-year-old snowboarder died on Tuesday while snowboarding at Mount Washington Alpine Resort on Vancouver Island.
The volunteer searchers began looking for the teen shortly after 5 p.m. after he failed to appear up at the base of the mountain as planned. “The coroner is returning to the area with the police today to get a better sense of the scene in the daylight and how it may have been that he landed where he did”.
The ski hill will have to review what happened and consider potential changes, Brown said.
The coroner noted the awful timing of Reid’s death, just three days before Christmas. “This is awful”, he said.
“This is a very sad tragedy”, resort general manager Peter Gibson stated.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with them”.
Reid, 15, an experienced snowboarder who was in Grade 10 at Claremont Secondary School in Saanich, was found in a tree well about seven hours after he went missing.
