Teen Treated for Possible Shark Bite
He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries but was bleeding when paramedics arrived and was treated on the scene.
Murrells Inlet Garden City Fire Rescue says they’ve heard there was a shark in the area, but that information has not been confirmed. The boy was expected to be released from the emergency room later Thursday.
Thursday’s incident comes more than a month after North Carolina and South Carolina saw a flurry of shark attacks. Two of the victims had limbs amputated. But it subsided as abruptly as it began.
Witnesses say the teen fought off the four foot long shark before being pulled from the water. Few bites occur, despite the thousands of people in the water each year.
Officials located a 15-year-old teenager with bite marks to the leg and hand from a marine animal.
