Teenage girl dies after Mayo road accident

SCENE The stretch of road along which an 18-year-old woman lost her life yesterday.

A teenage girl has died after being hit by a auto in Co Mayo.

The young woman’s name has not been released yet by gardaí, but she is from the Castlebar area.

The injured woman was rushed by ambulance to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar where her condition is said to be critical.

She was pronounced dead at 11.30pm that night.

The 83-year-old driver of the vehicle and a male passenger were also taken to hospital as a precaution.

Gardai in Castlebar have launched an investigation into the collision, which happened at Carrownurlaur, Breaffy, Castlebar at approximately 5pm.

The N60 road was closed for a forensic examination but has since been reopened to traffic.
