Teenage Palestinian girl shot after alleged attack

Israeli police said the Palestinian was shot dead at the scene by Israeli forces.
Palestinian camp activist Raed Hamdan identified the two as Ahmad Jahajha, a 21-year-old resident of the Qalandiya camp, and Hikmat Hamdan, 29, from the nearby town of el-Bireh.
Witnesses said Israeli forces detained the child, who was about to enter a market near the Flowers Gate of the Old City, and took him to a nearby Israeli police station.
Two cars with a large number of bullet holes were later seen in the camp, which is located near the checkpoint of the same name that marks the entrance to Jerusalem. Most of the others were killed in clashes with police or troops.
Palestinians are angry at growing violence by Israeli settlers at the al-Aqsa Mosque compound and their attacks on Palestinian properties, saying Israel seeks to change the status quo of the compound.
Palestinians are frustrated by Israel’s 48-year occupation and with peace talks going nowhere.
Israel accuses Palestinian groups – especially Hamas and the Palestinian Authority, which respectively govern the blockaded Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank – of inciting attacks on Israelis.
The United Nations on Tuesday called the wave of Palestinian terror attacks in recent months “unacceptable”, but criticized Israel for the “excessive use of force” in its self-defense against terrorism.
Pouilly warned that although global attention appeared to be waning, “the level of killings, injuries and arrests has continued, with an average of one person dying every day”.
