Tekken X Street Fighter still in the works
Tekken Team boss Katsuhiro Harada confirms that his studio is close to completing the long-awaited Tekken X Street Fighter crossover game, but right now, publisher Bandai Namco still doesn’t know when it’s actually going to release the fighting experience. Harada has been busy working on Tekken 7 as well as a number of other projects, so it’s not entirely surprising that information regarding Tekken X Street Fighter has been absent all this time. Thats not true!
Harada said that the game’s roster had been locked down a long time ago, and the character models, movesets, and gameplay systems have already been done.
UDON is also promising a story of epic proportions, featuring a number of fan-favorite characters like Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Alex, Guile, Cammy and more as they take on the dreaded Shadaloo organization of long-time antagonist M. Bison. The unfortunate reality is that the title was mired in a scandal that hampered the average gamer’s market perception on the title.
Famitsu may have been joking, but Harada has been juggling three other games at once. This also creates another conundrum.
The timing of the release of Tekken x Street Fighter has to be carefully timed and is a topic the company has been having difficulty deciding to appease players who can’t decide which of the two they’d like to play first.
Harada gave no indication of what characters would be appearing in Tekken x Street Fighter. Releasing too soon could cannibalize the market.
Rumor has it that the game will be released only after “Tekken 7”. The new series will supposedly combine all the fighters from the 30-year history of the “Street Fighter” franchise into one action-packed extravaganza of a storyline that fans of the video games have come to expect. Of course, that’s all just speculation.
This led many gamers to speculate that development of the game has stopped.
