Telangana CM participates in ‘Ayutha Chandi Maha Yagnam’
Priests at the “Ayutha Chandi Maha Yagam” of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasheker Rao in Medak on Thursday, December 24, 2015.
Rao was accorded a traditional welcome at the “yagashala” when he arrived there. The “Garu Prarthana” marked the beginning of the “yagam” rituals on the first day, it said. Along with many seers from the South, Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah, AP and Telangana Governor ESL Narasimhan, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, Supreme Court judge NV Ramana, and several dignitaries participated in the event on Saturday.
Gou puja (worshipping the cow), Maha Mantapa Sthapanam (installation of the bigger hall), Chandi yantra lekhanam (prayer to remove obstacles), among others, formed part of the rituals on the first day, the release said.
While the Yagna will cost an estimated Rs 7 crores, it will be held at KCR’s farmhouse in Medak district, which is just 10 kms from a village where a farmer hanged himself, following destruction of his crops and debtors at his door.
President Pranab Mukherjee would visit the place on December 27.
Disapproving of the “exorbitant splurge of money and misuse of government machinery for a personal event”, the Opposition BJP said it supported performing yajnas for the larger public good. The rituals began around 9.30 am with Guru Prarthana by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and his wife Shobha.
Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao and Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker K Siva Prasad Rao yesterday attended the “yagam”.
