Temple Alumni In Houston To Cheer On Owls
“This is a unique, wonderful week in Temple football history”. Walker, who threw for 287 yards, found some success through the air and found Anderson for a 13-yard score, cutting Houston’s lead to 24-10 with 2:26 left in the third.
The Cougars put together a decent rushing attack with 239 yards. Perhaps another week has improved the situation greatly, but he nevertheless faces the AAC’s top defense today.
This all took place after the Houston Cougars won the American conference championship.
“After viewing initial videos of today’s postgame activity, I am extremely disappointed and angered by individuals employed by our security contractor CSC”.
As is the case with many conference championships, either team is very capable of becoming, well, the conference champion. Houston is one win shy of the school record for victories – Kevin Sumlin coached the Cougars to a 13-1 mark in 2011.
Anderson grabbed a 14-yard reception on Temple’s next drive, but Elandon Roberts forced a fumble and it was recovered by Trevon Stewart at the Houston 9. Houston extended its lead to 24-3 when Ward ran 10 yards for a touchdown with 6:40 left in the third quarter. Walker’s pass was incomplete to sophomore wide receiver Adonis Jennings, and the Cougars took over on their own 38-yard line. Neither team has ever played in the Peach or Fiesta Bowl…. Temple Owls rank at 51 for 227.5 road passing yards where as Houston Cougars rank at 117 for allowing 288.4 passing yards at home. The two takeaways against the Owls give them 30 in 13 games this season. It’s no coincidence that Houston’s one loss came in a turnover-plagued game at UConn in which junior quarterback Greg Ward Jr. was injured. Herman said Wilson would likely play both offense and defense against Temple. Sophomore running back Javin Webb also scored a touchdown and senior cornerback William Jackson III broke up seven passes for Houston. Temple began the 4th quarter in Houston’s red zone and converted on 4th and 1, but an untimely holding penalty drove the Owls back out of the red zone and forced a 3rd and 8 pass to the end zone that was broken up by Houston’s Jeremy Winchester.
