Tennessee coach clarifies timetable on Maggitt’s return
Phillips didn’t play vs. Oklahoma and only got in during the final moments in the opener against Bowling Green, but now he’ll have to play with Maggitt out indefinitely.
Tennessee now has a better idea on how long it will be without Curt Maggitt. “That’s OK. Everyone has to earn their money one way or the other”.
“I told him he’s a heck of a player and (to) leave this place with class”, Jones said. “He does not, as of today, need surgery, which is a positive”. O’Leary also announced that preseason starting center Joey Grant has chose to end his UCF football career after aggravating a surgically repaired left shoulder.
Maggitt already missed the entire 2013 season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in November 2012.
Jones wouldn’t rule Maggitt out for the season, but he faces a long time on the shelf. “I didn’t say anything back, but I didn’t see what was so classless about that”.

Jones called it a “freak injury” when he addressed the media on Monday morning following a 31-24 double overtime loss to Oklahoma.
“We have to learn how to close games out”, Jones said. His attitude is outstanding. At the time, the conference had 10 teams ranked in the Top 25. “He took one on the sideline over there by me that he didn’t have to take”. We can still win the East, still win the SEC championship, still make it to the playoff. “We’ve had to grow up in a hurry and we’ve had to improve in a hurry”.
After the game, video caught Sooners linebacker and team captain Eric Striker shouting foul language directed at the SEC before leaving the field. We were in punt safe, and he went to avoid a guy and hurt his hip.
“Having LaDarrell back is a big boost to us”, Jones said.
More Rutgers Turmoil: A star Rutgers receiver has been charged with assault in yet another arrest and suspension of a football player at the school. “It’s gonna test all parts of our defense”.
