Tennessee Cop, a Soon-to-be-Father, Killed Off Duty
The officer, Terence Olridge, 31, was shot multiple times at about 1 p.m. and then rushed to a local hospital where he died, Memphis Police spokesman Louis Brownlee said.
The victim, Memphis Police officer Terence Oldridge, was shot multiple times and was transported to Regional Medical Center in critical condition following the shooting, but died shortly after.
WREG reports that police have one person in custody for the shooting.
A suspect is in custody and the investigation is ongoing.
Olridge was the fourth Memphis police officer to be fatally shot in slightly more than four years.
Olridge joined the police department in September 2014, and was stationed at the Airways precinct, The Commercial Appeal reported.
Olridge’s fiance is four months pregnant with the couple’s first child.
“It just doesn’t get any easier”, Armstrong told reporters on Sunday.
“Pray for him his family and the department and the city”, said Mayor A C Wharton. Armstrong said at this point, police have “more questions than we have answers”.
“Today, the collective heart of the city is broken”.
Neighbors on Longshadow said they heard at least 15 gun shots.
Memphis Police are not revealing any more details, only to keep the community in prayers. “It wasn’t very long ago that I stood in close proximity to where I’m standing now and said something very similar to what I am saying now”. “I don’t know exactly how he made it back, but made it back to the garage door”.
