Tennessee couple claim winning ticket for US Powerball jackpot
The ticket has yet to be verified by Tennessee lottery officials, but news outlets have reported that one of the winning tickets was sold in Munford.
A Tennessee couple did not have to worry about the sinking stock values on Wall Street Friday afternoon, because they showed the world one of three winning Powerball tickets.
The victor of one of two big prizes in North Dakota in Wednesday night’s Powerball drawing purchased the ticket at Hugo’s in Grafton, the North Dakota Lottery Commission said today.
“I checked them, actually, four times, and I said ‘Well, I’ll believe it when the news comes on in the morning and they say hey, there’s a victor been in Munford, ‘” John said.
The Robinsons then took the Today anchors back to the night of the drawing, when John picked up four tickets on his way home from work feeling under the weather.
Lisa Robinson said her husband was asleep when the numbers were called.
With each state setting its own lottery rules, the California retailer will get a $1 million bonus for selling the jackpot-winning ticket, while the Florida retailer, located in a tiny coastal town, will get $100,000.
According to Walker, he had never purchased a lottery ticket before. The winners overcame odds of 1 in 292.2 million to land on all the numbers.
On Thursday, two of the non-jackpot winners also came forward: A 25-year-old woman in a suburb of Baltimore won about $US50,000, and another woman in Stafford, Virginia won $US1 million.
The couple’s last name was not revealed because Maryland is one of six states where winners can remain anonymous or have few details released on their identities.
At least three winning tickets have been confirmed after Wednesday’s almost $1.6 billion Powerball jackpot.
The victor… John and Lisa Robinson’s winning Powerball numbers.
John announced that the family will opt for a lump sum payment for their winning, which Lottery Finance Director Andy Davis said amounts to $327.8 million – $327,835,077 to be exact.
Florida Lottery officials are still waiting for the victor of the jackpot to come forward.
“When I heard about the billion dollar Powerball jackpot, I made a decision to try my luck and buy a ticket”, said Walker.
