Tennessee couple claims third of U.S. world-record Powerball jackpot
John Robinson says he bought the ticket and three others Wednesday night while on the way home. His wife asked him to buy tickets on his way home from work, so, even though he didn’t feel well, he bought them at Naifeh’s Food Mart in Munford.
“CNN banged on my door and said ‘did you know your neighbors were the Powerball winner?’ and I said ‘you have got to be kidding”.
Jackpot winners “get a big old target painted on their backs”, said Andrew Stoltmann, an IL attorney who has represented winners. The odds of winning were 1 in 292.2 million, and for context, that meant ticket-buyers had a better chance of being elected president than becoming an instant billionaire.
The couple’s potential winning ticket has not yet been verified by Tennessee officials, although the lottery did announce that one of the three winning tickets was purchased in Munford.
Tennessee Lottery executive Rebecca Hargrove made the big announcement. Mr. Tipton operated with associates to rig games in Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin, eventually winning $2.6 million.
NBC said the ticket had not yet been officially verified, but the couple said they planned to bring it to lottery officials immediately after the show.
The Robinsons said they have no plans to leave Munford, the town of about 6,000 north of Memphis where they both went to high school.
The Robinsons appeared on the “Today” show earlier Friday and said they had a winning ticket.
“I was running down the hallway screaming and crying”, Lisa Robinson said.
“When we bought the tickets, our first priority was to pay her student loans”, John said.
However, the California 7-Eleven location that sold a lucky ticket received a mock US-million cheque Thursday, according to the outlet.
That’s the story Kathryn and her husband, Ricardo, told Maryland lottery officials in the United States when they went to claim their prize after the biggest lottery drawing in the history of the game.
She said she hoped they stay in the neighborhood, but understood if they decided not to.
On Wednesday a Pomona nurse was identified as one of the three winners of the largest lottery jackpot in USA history, but in the end it turned out to be a prank done by her own ungrateful son. “We didn’t get enough sleep”.
He admitted: “I checked them four times and said: ‘I’ll believe it when the news comes on in the morning and they say hey, there’s a victor been in Munford'”.
Skateboarder Erik Bragg posted a picture of himself Thursday night holding a winning ticket on Instagram, with a caption that reads, “I’m posting this in case anyone tries to jack me this is proof!”
